Lucy was pregnant and homeless when she came to Catholic Care's Houses to Homes

Her mother wouldn't allow her to live with the family and the baby's father had become abusive when Lucy* decided to keep their baby. Desperate and alone, she had nowhere else to go.

"When we met Lucy, she was in a dishevelled state. The little work she had wasn't enough to cover rent, so she was sleeping in her car and staying with friends," Louise, a Houses to Homes support worker recalls.

With health care, pregnancy and parenting support, as well as financial assistance, Lucy developed essential parenting and independent living skills. By the time her baby boy, Matthew,* was born, Lucy was able to create a safe family environment for them both.

By the grace of God, and with thanks to charitable Christians like you, today Lucy and her baby are healthy, happy and living in a more permanent home where they feel safe and secure.

Homeless young mums desperately need our help

For more than 30 years, Catholic Care's Houses to Homes has been assisting disadvantaged pregnant girls and young mothers aged 16 to 25, who are experiencing abuse, hardship and homelessness.

The need for shelter and support has increased with the cost of living crisis, putting an even greater strain on staff and resources.
